The underwear was developed after a number of officers wearing bullet-proof vests were injured.Bullets stopped by the vest often pushed the plastic and metal parts of their bras into their flesh, causing serious wounds
They are all emblazoned with the word "police" and made from cotton, polyester, elastic and some other synthetic materials, thickly padded and with no metal or plastic studs or fasteners.Looking similar to sports bras, the new bras are white.
Three thousand front-line women police officers will now be equipped with the new bras on duty. From now on, women police officers will be allowed to pick three bras from a range of designs, varying in size and style.It is up to each individual officer to decide whether she will go for the latest "bullet-proof" lingerie - a police spokesman was keen to point out that the new bras "are optional".
